Exterior shading

External venetian blinds

Aluminium venetians mounted outside the glass — the most effective solar control there is, because the heat is intercepted before it ever gets into the room.

Interior blinds manage heat that's already inside the house; exterior shading stops most of it at the glass. On the big north- and west-facing fairway walls common in Woodhill, that difference is dramatic — it's the same principle high-end architects use to shade glass buildings, applied to a home.

What the product actually is

Wide aluminium slats, typically in the 60–90mm class, run in guided side rails or cables and both tilt and raise, so you keep the ability to steer light rather than just block it entirely. They're effectively always motorised, with a wind-sensor auto-retract as standard — an exposed external blind has to protect itself in a highveld gust or storm, and the sensor does that automatically. Finishes are powder-coated and engineered for weather exposure.

Woodhill specifically

Ridge and view homes with hard west or north exposure are exactly where external venetians earn their spend — if the household's usual comment is "the aircon can't keep up with that glass wall," this is the product that actually fixes it, rather than working around it from the inside. Because the blind changes the look of the facade, we specify clean profiles and estate-appropriate colours, and can provide the documentation your Woodhill aesthetics submission typically needs.

Honest limitations

This is a premium, building-improvement spend, not a budget window dressing — and because it's visible from outside, estate approval is part of the process, not an afterthought. It isn't a DIY or retrofit-anywhere product either; facade fixing points need assessing on site, ideally at design or renovation stage rather than after the fact.

Pairs well with

Most Woodhill homes run external venetians on the worst-exposed elevation and a sunscreen roller inside the same room — heat stopped outside, glare fine-tuned inside, view kept either way.

Where we fit these

Fitting external venetian blinds across Mooikloof, The Wilds, Six Fountains and Boardwalk Meander — wherever hard west- or north-facing fairway glass needs heat stopped at the window, not after it.
